Located in south bombay, Colaba Causeway, is a commercial street and a major causeway market. Its officially known as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road. It is a  land link between Colaba and the Old Woman’s Island in the city of Mumbai, India. It lies close to all the famous areas and landmarks of Mumbai like the Fort area, Cuffe Parade, the Gateway of India and Taj Mahal Palace and Tower. Colaba Causeway market caters to every style, budget and taste.The  market extends from a spread out collection of stalls to a seemingly never ending boardwalk of tempting things. As soon as you enter the Colaba Causeway, you are greeted with an abundance of bags, enchanting household items, T-shirts with funny mottos and slogans, exotic shawls, clothes and accessories.

  • The market opens at 10:00 AM in the morning and closes at 10:00 PM at night.
  • Bargaining is a prominent part of the process(buying stuff), never buy a product at the price the seller quotes at first. Try to bring him to half the price of the product.
  • It was constructed by the British East India Company during the tenure of Sir Robert Grant as the governor of Bombay. The  construction was completed in 1838, by connecting the two islands of Colaba and Old Women’s Island to the mainland of Bombay.
  • The architecture of the area is similar to that of old Bombay i.e. the South Bombay. It is similar to the architecture seen in buildings like the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Prince of Wales Museum (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum) and Cusrow Baug, Regal Cinema. Presently, this area is recognized as the ‘Culture Square’ of Mumbai. 
  • The popular Colaba Causeway restaurants are Cafe Leopold and Cafe Mondegar. These are the age-old Irani cafes founded in 1871, and still are some of the most loved restaurants in Mumbai. Apart from that, there is the famous Delhi Darbar restaurant, Gokul, Kailash Parbat and Cafe Churchill.

  • It is an ultimate destination for artists as well as Colaba Causeway  is a home to numerous art galleries.
  • There are a lot of brand showrooms as well to shop from. They deal in clothes, footwear, cosmetics, electronic gadgets and music.

  • Talkin about parking your vehicle in or near Colaba Causeway is difficult. People usually prefer going by public cabs which are easily available in Mumbai because of the heavy traffic everywhere. But if you are lucky you can park in the lanes nearby, like outside regal cinemas, or the art gallery. You also have the option of using a Colaba Causeway paid parking.
  • You can also visit the nearby famous places such as the Bade Miya restaurants stay open till midnight, you can sit, chill and relax at the Marine Drive looking at the Queen’s Necklace, visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus ( the monumental railway station), visit Kala Ghoda, the Gateway of India, the Taj Mahal Palace, watch a movie at the Regal cinemas.
